All cars are expensive in Fortunata. Only
electric powered cars are able to be registered privately.
The government
generally discourages their usage for all but retirees and the
disabled. Taxes are charged on all privately purchased or
imported electric vehicles.
There is a free (electric) bus
service, and ex-government electric vehicles are given to the disabled or retirees as
part of their retirement package.
Some commercial and Industrial vehicles are
powered by natural gas, but very few use diesel or petrol. The are no petrol stations on the
island apart from at the waterfront, although stocks are also held by the government for special vehicles.
Currently most watercraft are powered by petrol or diesel,
but there are competitions to come up with alternative energy
sources for them also.
